The Historisches Museum Frankfurt (Historical Museum) is the Main metropolis’s modern municipal museum and one of the largest in Europe. The award-winning Museum Quarter is situated in the heart of Frankfurt’s Old Town and consists of the 800-year-old Saalhof and new buildings opened in 2017. On an area of 6,000 square metres, eight exhibitions present themes related to the city’s past, present, and future. The museum rooms in the ‘Haus der Goldenen Waage’—one of the most beautiful Renaissance half-timber buildings in Frankfurt’s ‘New Old Town’—also belong to the Historisches Museum. The Historisches Museum offers an attractive programme for children and teens of different ages. Theme booklets and interactive displays accompany visitors through the permanent exhibitions ‘Frankfurt Once?’ and ‘The Collectors’ Museum’. A guided tour for families takes place once a month on Sunday at 3.00 pm. MMG 14+ is the multimedia offer for young visitors to the special exhibitions. Visitors to age 18 can use the MMGs (multimedia guide devices) in the museum free of charge or access the guide right on their own smartphones with the museum’s free WiFi access.
